Some inspiration and tips for those mum’s thinking of going zero waste with their little one’s!

Should you really only cook with wine you’d drink? The truth about cooking with wine.

Gorgeous weaving Instagram account!

Miss K has really dry skin, so we like to use a humidifier at night while she’s sleeping. Unfortunately my husband is allergic to Vicks, so we bought the Euky Bear Vaporiser instead and we love it! The inhalant is a lovely blend of eucalyptus, rosemary and menthol – a few drops is all you need!

As the weather gets colder and Winter is around the corner, I’ve been keeping a close eye on the Falls Creek mountain cams!

Enjoy the rest of your week!

When Every Minute Counts

Time seems to work differently when you have a baby. Since having Miss K, I find myself thinking in ‘sleep cycles’ rather than in minutes or hours. When she was a newborn, I was quite lucky in that she regularly woke and slept every 2 hours.

When she was awake, I spent most of my time feeding, burping, and changing her. As soon as she was down, it was a mad rush to get things done before she woke up again. The morning sleep cycles are always busier as I like to get most of my errands done in the morning and relax in the afternoon – rest assured, I’m not always running around like a madwoman!

Here’s an example of a typical morning sleep cycle when Miss K was around 6-8 weeks old (for simplicity’s sake I’ve rounded the times):

  • 11am: Baby wakes up
  • 11 – 11.10am: Feed left boob
  • 11.10 – 11.15am: Burp
  • 11.15 – 11.20am: Feed left boob
  • 11.20 – 11.25am: Burp
  • 11.25 – 11.30am: Change nappy
  • 11.30 – 11.32am: Try and feed right boob
  • 11.32 – 11.35am: Tummy time
  • 11.35 – 11.45am: Feed right boob
  • 11.45 – 11.50am: Burp
  • 11.50am – 12pm: Put down to sleep
  • 12 – 12.05pm: Boil water
  • 12.05 – 12.15pm: Put in load of laundry
  • 12.15 – 12.20pm: Make hot tea
  • 12.20 – 12.30pm: Shower
  • 12.30 – 12.40pm: Drink lukewarm tea while editing blog post
  • 12.40 – 12.50pm: Tidy kitchen
  • 12.50 – 12.55pm: Take out rubbish and recycling bin
  • 12.55 – 1pm: Heat up burger
  • 1 – 1.10pm: Put out laundry
  • 1.10pm: Take first bite of burger – baby wakes up

Some days are better than others but it does get a little bit better and more fulfilling as she gets older!

Apple and Walnut Hot Cross Buns

Ever since hot cross buns hit the shelves early this year, I’ve been indulging in their deliciousness! Lightly toasted with Nuttelex generously spread on top, they make the perfect snack. This year, I decided to try my hand at making some of my own.

For Easter this year, Coles ran a series of hot cross bun recipes in their monthly food magazine and I loved the look of their Apple and Walnut Hot Cross Buns. So on a warm Saturday afternoon and with the help of my husband who helped to mind Miss K in between the chopping, kneading, proving, and baking, I made my first ever hot cross buns!

Although the taste was a lot milder than the store bought ones, they came out gloriously light and fluffy. The best thing of all of course, was I made them myself!

Are you a baker? If so, what do you love to make at home? I would love to hear about it in the comments below!

Remembering My Dad

This year marks the 2nd anniversary of my dad’s death.

After he passed away, I thought a lot about how I wanted to remember him. Should I write him a letter? Fill in a card? Visit his memorial tree?

In the end I decided to light a candle for him at Church and spent a few quiet moments reflecting and remembering. It was bittersweet but also a nice way to honour him and keep his memory alive. Since then, I’ve lit a candle for him and the tradition has stuck.

I still miss him so much.
